Aung Kyaw Htet
Burmese, b. 1965
Aung Kyaw Htet is a Myanmar artist and devout Buddhist, whose upbringing in a small village significantly influences his artwork. Born in 1965 in Myaungmya and educated at the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon, Aung Kyaw Htet is renowned for his realistic depictions of monks and nuns in Myanmar, focusing on their humanity rather than their religious symbolism. His work is characterized by detailed facial expressions, the use of light and shadow, and subdued colors to convey serenity. His paintings, created between 1999 and 2007, have been featured in international exhibitions across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the USA, and are part of the collections at the National Museum of Myanmar and the National Art Gallery of Malaysia.
