Fern Min Eng,
Singaporean, Â b.1964
Fern has always been an artist at heart, exhibiting an experimental spirit from a young age. For her, art was not merely a hobby but a profound means of finding and expressing meaning in life. This passion for creativity led her to develop a unique painting style that reflects her personal experiences and worldview.
Fern’s formal education in art began at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), where she honed her foundational skills. Eager to expand her artistic horizons, she pursued further studies in Chinese painting in Shanghai. There, she was mentored in the traditional Gongbi technique—a meticulous realist method—under the guidance of renowned masters such as Mao Guolun and Shi Dawei. This rigorous training profoundly influenced her artistic approach, blending precision with emotional depth.
Upon returning to Singapore, Fern dedicated herself to sharing what she has learn with art students. She took up teaching positions at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Ministry of Education schools, sharing her passion for art.
Over the past two decades, Fern has showcased her work in numerous group exhibitions globally and locally in Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Her dedication and artistic excellence have been recognized with prestigious awards, including prizes in the National Defence Competition (1991) and the UOB Painting of the Year Competition (1991-1992).
